I am currently in a community college and plan to transfer to a 4 year college. I have a 3.7 gpa. Im planning on going to med school cause I realized I want to be a doctor but I am not majoring in Pre-Med.I want to major in humanities and take the pre-reqs for med school.

I know that you have to take:

1 year of chem,1 year of organic chem,1year of biology, 1 year of physics,1 year of calculus ..

but I would like to know what are some of the other courses in science that you can take to prepare for med school, any suggestions??
Thanks

Outside of the prereqs, the science courses I felt that helped me the most were physiology, cell biology, and biochem~especially for the MCAT! Humanities majors typically do well on the verbal section of the test, so you'll probably be above par if you take some practice tests. Basically, I would recommend taking any bio course you can since it's a lot easier to learn the material the second go round. The classes you take in med school are usually anatomy, physiology, microbiology, genetics, pharmacology, immunology, molecular biology, etc (check the websites of a few med schools to get the entire list). Also, I stronly recommend doing some sort of internship or working in the field, it will prove to be invaluable! Good luck!

You have done some good research so you understand what is involved. Many pre-med students major in chemistry or biochemistry or genetics or biology, so you would be talking extra classes in those subjects. But as you probably have found out, you can major in any subject, as long as you have the pre-reqs. If you google you can find lists of what majors medical students did when they were undergrads. There are a lot who did philosophy, business, psychology, even music or art.

You should alread be talking to the premed advisor at the school you are going to get you BS degree. She/he can tell you what the options are at that school and what most of their students decide to do.
