Yes. It is the beginning of everything, and it comes in so many different forms, from a relationship to the feeling when a beam of sunlight hits you and warms you up on a cool day. The taste of a cookie, a paycheck. Its all good, and it starts all the other ambition and drive.

I think this relates to the theory of Situation Ethics. This is a theory that was devised by Joseph Fletcher. Essentially it is based on four principles:
1.) Pragmatism - All Proposed actions must work towards a loving end.
2.) Relativism - All situations must be approached individually, but only by providing a loving response.
3.) Positivism - The principle of love is governed by faith rather than reason.
4.) Personalism - Love must always put people first, not laws.
Of course, we cannot stick to these rules, being selfish through nature... i mean we still retain our value for life from our first days and will more often than not put ourselfs ahead of other people. Forgetting 'love'.
So, although as much as i love the song, it dont think it is possible for us to say that "all you need is love is correct" as there are so many other social boundaries that get in the way, when trying to think in this way!

Absolutely not. Physical attraction brings people together. Love is the result of physical attraction but it is only the foundation of a good relationship. Love is most definately important but not any more important than ... understanding, communication, honesty, determination, reassurance, acknowledgement, being supportive, being helpful ... There are many things besides love in a good relationship. The Captain and Tennile sang "Love Will Keep Us Together." This is more true than "All You Need Is Love." When you love someone, truly love someone, you will be willing to make sacrifices. Love will keep you together if your love is strong enough and it includes the other things I mentioned.

As much as I admire John Lennon and his music, I'd have to say "NO"..I think he was just making a philosophical statement. Remember he also wrote"... give me money, it's what I want" and also, ironically and tragically, "... happiness is a warm gun".

I love John its a beautiful message and I wish it was true but it isn't. When you are young you think that love is all you need but love wont pay the rent or feed the kids

Not entirely, because we are humans on more levels than just one. We are humans on biological, physical, mental and emotional levels. Love, I would say, comes under emotional/mental; however, love isn't out only emotion. We cry, we get sad and happy without love.
We are human on biological levels too and love isn't all we need because we need to stay alive, i.e., make this happen; eat, drink. However, in order to do this we need to be there. Love brings sex, or not, and therefore a continuation of our species.
We are humans on physical levels, we need to live, i.e. we need shelter, and we need to socialise in order to be. Love isn't necessary as such for these because we need a certain amount of stability as in monetary, to live properly and socialise. However, having certain forms of love, friends and family, helps these things along too.

Pretty much, yes.
When we got married, we hardly had the proverbial pot to p__s in or two nickles to rub together. We ate a lot of Kraft Dinner, and our share of Government pork (which is actually, pretty good), and 36 years later, we're still going strong.

From experience I like to believe so..in the end,it's true...but I still remember Frank Zappa's riposte "Oh No" tune from "Weasels Ripped My Flesh"....'you say all we need is love--I think you're probably out to lunch--how can we change all of the fools and all of the hate'...I am still confused but still Love this Chaos..the love of another soul...is...Worth it All.

seems to me that love doesn't put food on the table and pay the rent. Unless of course you are selling love in which case it's really not "love" LOL

love is the most beautiful thing in the world. that's why no-one can ever really describe what it is. ironic. i would rather die of hunger or thirst or lack of oxygen, than be loveless. to be without love is to be incomplete. that doesn't mean that are incomplete if no-one loves you, that means that if you are incapable of love, your life is not worth living. it's a half-life. incomplete.
for me, all you need is love.
