First of all, when you decide you want a business opportunity, you have to expect an investment of some kind. Be it a regular business or a home business, you are in fact, purchasing a business, so you must expect to pay to start.

I understand your skepticsm, but you have to understand that if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. If it sounds like a true business where you are marketing a product and receiving income for doing it, it likely is not a scam.
Any business needs to be product oriented or the house of cards will fall.
Companies can be checked out at the BBB, DSA as well. If they are in good standing with the Better Business Bureau as well as the Direct Selling Association, you can be sure they are legitimate.
You then have to consider your product as well as your market. You don't want to limit your market in any way, and you want your product to be consumable. This is essential for re-orders.
You also want a company that offers the best compensation plan that you can find. Comp plans are not easy to understand sometimes, so you really need to check them out with someone who does understand them to avoid surprises.
Once you have all that in place, you have to really look at what consumers want. I started a business in the health and wellness industry because the boomers are aging, have the most disposable income and are looking for health and anti-aging. This is fast becoming a trillion dollar industry. When I found this product and saw what it did for me and my family, I knew I wanted to market it. I don't have to convince people to buy it, I just tell them my story and what it did for me and they ask me for it. I think that is how you can tell you are with the right company.

You sound like I did a few years ago. You know statics show that 150,000 people a week sign up for some sort of online money making thing. Also scams out rank legit offers 42-1. Personally I think the scam count is higher than that because of all the people daily creating new websites. Most people in programs that really work, don't promote their company in a forum like answers. I wrote a blog about advice for working from home simply to help others learn how to tell the difference between a real opportunity and a 'promise'. You can find the link to it in the 2nd paragraph of my profile here. It is all generic information with NO sales pitch, just straight from the hip information that I learned along the way in my own struggle to become successful. I would be glad to help you get more generically educated to the point that you can make an independent choice if you would like and it doesn't take that long to figure it out once you have some basics down. ~give me a shout if I can help ~jennifer Helping others create income through education, one step at a time.

Well, first you must look for creditibility and yahoo answers will not give you much of that. Many people on here have been scammed and, not that I blame them, but they then think all are a scam. Real home businesses require some work. I am with a company that has been in business for over 34 years and we are publicaly trade on the NYSE, so it is not a scam. Yes, we do ask for an up front investment fee, but it gets returned to you, on top of your commission, within your first 45 days.
There are scams and there are websites that make you think that they are home businesses. You can really find out the true creditibility if you just talk to the people who are introducing you to the company. I do wish you luck and hope you find what you are looking for!

Have you checked out SFI? It has been online for over 8 years and has been voted the #1 Home Business Company three years running.

I have been involved with them for two years and am extremely satisfied with their pay structure. They have over 600 products to sell. They handle shipping, payment, everything to do with a business.

They are free to join, they have a website for you to use, they have excellent training materials and support. There is no obligation once you sign up...if it is something you don't want to do, then opt out.

It is very easy for the novice or the expert marketer.

If this is something you are not interested in try one of the other 20 Work At Home Opportunites listed on my site. They are all legitimate.

I recommend SiteSell. They've helped me and tens of thousands of people launch successful home-based web businesses. And they have a Money Back Guarantee. Check out their cutting edge blog: http://blogit.sitesell.com/wotsnext.html

Then take a look and find the type of business on this link [ http://www.wotsnext.com ] that best describes what it is that YOU do (or want to do), and see how YOU can build your own thriving online business.

It works for me. As an example, take a look at how I use the SiteSell. Then see if you can fit something similar around your own area of expertise. Then all you need is a passion and some persistence. This page links you to all the resources I use. http://www.psychic-junkie.com/are-you-psychic.html

I have started home shopping/home delivery service business & it's going great! There are too many 2 income families where they have very little time to shop. I think the home shopping service sector is a great money making opportunity.

Just do your homework. If they promise fast money with no effort it is a scam. I looked for over a year. Finally I found a company I love and guess what I'm making money and having the time of my life.
