It's very post-9/11 in attitude. Especially making the Doctor the last surviving Time Lord. Both new doctors seem almost manic-depressive, and with the newer attitude of being willing to kill the bad guys with no remorse.
And of course, the SFX these days are great. The writing is pretty solid. Acting is good. Look forward to many more seasons if they can keep it up.
I'm still up in the air about the killing all the Daleks/Cybermen/Earthbound Slitheen to the very last one, yet somehow one escaped/was hidden away/came from a parallel dimension/has been working as mayor/etc. It's already becoming a bit of a cliche, and only 2 seasons have gone by. So far, the cliche has been very entertaining, though!

Its just about as good as "old" Dr. Who, except with better special effects and less of a sense of humor,
Rose was just as cute as a bug, but the whole "falling in love" thing seemed a little wrong to me. It would be like falling romantically in love with a puppy. They just were never equals, even though Rose was brave and compassionate and yadda yadda...
Separating them Had to be done, unless they were prepared to "marry" her to the Doctor, or kill her off. (Although I guess what they did amounted to killing her character off.)
