Assuming you mean added programs and not portions of the operating system: You can go to where the particular program is kept, typically under Program Files. Find the application itself, which will end in .EXE. Just rename this to something like .OBJ.

The program will not be able to run. When you need it, rename it back to .EXE.

(Note: You didn't mention the reason. So this method will prevent your inadvertant use, and stop many others from using the program. But a power user would probably figure this out in short order.)

That depends upon the software, they are all different. Some you can disable by right-clicking the icon in the System Tray and looking for Disable, Exit, etc. Some you can turn off from the program themselves when you have them up on your screen; I would try the File menu first. Some will require going into your System Configuration Utility. Wish there was one simple answer but there is not. Good luck.

There's a program called ''End it all'' available on compu docs for older versions of windows, and it's free. You can also do the ''Control alt, delete'' thing or you can start in safe mode.

Hit CTRL+ALT+DEL ONE TIME!! do NOT DO IT TWICE or you'll reboot your system!!

Then in the task manager, find the programs that you want to stop running and close them down.

They will be closed until you open them again or reboot.
