Using torrents are a great way to go.
First you need a torrent client, such as uTorrent:
http://www.utorrent.com/download.php
Then you can download torrents at sites such as this:
http://www.eztvefnet.org/?main=showlist
Or this:
http://www.mininova.org/cat/8
Or do a search using this:
http://btjunkie.org/
It can be a bit overwhelming at first, but you get the hang of it very quickly.

I would suggest 40D From channel4.com it is free (I think) and yu can download all the things you've missed on channel 4 (i.e Celebrity Big Brother)

http://tv.peekvid.com. This website doesn't allow to download tv shows, but allows you to view them. It doesn't have all the tv shows in the world, but it has quite a few of them. Check it out, i think it is really good!!

you could download 'youtube grabber' for as we all know that we cant directly download the vids from youtube.
