What do you want to know, do you want domain names then ask your ip provider, or search the web for the thousands of ip provider who offer websites and hostings, domain names can be had for as little as $5 a year.
If it's a UK domain name .co.uk, then go to the states they sell them far cheaper than in the UK

What do you need from the host, is it just html or do you need more advanced services such as php, sql databases, ruby on rails etc.
Are you wanting something that can handle high bandwidth such as a game site or is it lower bandwidth such as a blog or personal website.
Shop around ou can get good deals but the more you need the more you will have to pay. Most hosts will also be able to register a domain name for you for free.

I would recommend a webhosting company called Digitalhost i have been with them for over 3 years and everything has been perfect with them.
Domain names interesting have you tried making one up and see what you come up with and seeing if it is available for you to register ?
Try out www.globalwebnames.com/ and enter a domain name like whateveritis in the text both top right hand corner you wont need the .com on the end though

bluehost.com - the best in the nation. Cheap but tons of features! I use them for my sites. Use Godaddy.com to get your domain name. All .com names are searchable from any registar, but godaddy offers great deals and excellent domain name tools.

For DNS hosting I wouldn't go past zoneedit.com, you can host your first 5 domain names with them free.
They don't host websites though...
There really isn't any good "free" website hosts anymore, which is a pity.
