It depends where in Riga you go to. Also, which is naughty, but unfortunately happens in many countries, if they see tourists, especially without any locals with them, your price could be doubled! Always be careful with that!
Try going to places where locals go, out of the main part of, especially old town, prices there are generally much better! If you happen to go to the Market, please know waht things cost otherwise you'll end up paying 3 times as much. As I said before, it would be really helpful to hav a a local with you.
In general, prices are not too high but you definately have to know where to go, they are making a lot of money on tourists.
Oh, and be careful with ladies, - although they are really beautiful (most of them), just keep your head cool or otherwise you'll end up with no money! ;-) And don't get into arguments with guys, they sure like to fight! Especially as many of them are really angry with foreigners because they are taking all the girls! Be careful if a local guy is being really friendly with you, on rare occasions they do that to get you pay for their drinks and it has been known - beat you up in the end...
Sorry to possibly scare you but I genuinelly feel sorry for some tourists.
I do hope you have a wonderful time though, as I said - be wise and it'll be allright. I described all the bad things just to keep you guys on your toes but in general it's not unsafe.

Riga is about the same as London... and the Latvian Lat is about the same as the British Pound, too.
