Usually 4 credit hours means that you will be class 4 hours a week. How many weeks the class lasts depends on how long the semester is.

it will be the same legnth as any credit hour class, but you will have it more time per week.

for example, if you have a 2 credit hour class and a 4 credit hour class, they will both last the whole semester, and start and end on the same day, but you will attend the 2 hour class for 2 hours a week, and the 4 hour class for 4 hours a week.

that's why you get more credit for the 4 credit-hour class than the 2 credit-hour class.

For any given course, the term credit hour refers both to how many clock hours you will spend in that course per week during a 16-week semester and how many credits you will receive at the end of the semester if you satisfactorily complete the course.

You can determine the number of credit hours a course is worth by looking at the last digit of the course number; for example, ENG 1113 is a three-hour course that you will attend for three clock hours per week during a 16-week semester. At the end of the semester, your transcript will show that you earned three credit hours for ENG 1113 if you satisfactorily completed that course.

It does not mean hours as in time. Four credit hours means that when you finish all that course it will earn for you four credits provided you pass.
