It may be harder to conceive. The baby may have a greater risk of Down's Syndrome. And Mamma will be really old when the prom and graduation rolls around. But if you are up for that, I say go for it.

I dont think they should give up but i do think they need to take some precautions..After the age of 35 u are considered higher risk then younger mothers. Your eggs are not that mature anymore and there is a good possiblity of having more than 1 baby at a time, having a baby with downs syndrome and risking the mothers health as well. There has been women in the 40's and even 50's who have gotten pregnant and have had healthy pregnancies. If this question is dedicated to you then i suggest u speak with your doctor to make sure u are in the best health possible and if everything looks good then I say go for it,if thats what u want. Good Luck!

I got pregnant for the first time at 39 and was 40 when our baby was born, so no I don't think that women in their 40's must give up having a baby!!

No. Lots of women have babies in their 40's. Look at Julia Roberts and Mariska Hargitay. There is an increased risk of birth defects such as Down's Syndrome b/c the eggs are "old". But w/ a doctor's supervision, many women succesfully have children in their fourties. Fifties is a different story................

I think having a child at any age is a BEAUTIFUL thing. But, as you and your child get older it's going to be harder for you to be "up to date" with what your child is doing. I can't tell you how many friends I had growing up that had "older" parents and the kids were running around like HELLIANS b/c the parents just couldn't do it anymore. That's a great dis-service to any child! My opinion is that maybe you should work in your church's daycare (while they have service). This gives you your "baby fix", allows you to touch the lives of MANY children, but you also give the babies back at the end of the service...and your life goes on. Enjoy being in your 40's...start slowing down and just enjoy life as it is. You're entering a beautiful stage of life, just enjoy it. Enjoy other people's kids and when you get tired of them, give them back to the parents!! Just like grandparents do!

i think it is up to the individual. There are greater risks of birth defects. Plus someone has to think that if they are 40 by the time there child gets out of high school they will be in there 60's I myself am glad I had my kids in my 20's that way im still young when they get out of high school.

I say pushing 50 or over is wayyyyyyyyy to old. Early 40's is okay. I had our last at 40.10 years. If I could do it over again, I'd probably have kids no later than 37ish BUT didn't meet my husband until I was 36!

There are increased risks involved but there are many women who have healthy and happy pregnancies in their 40's.

No.Some woman wait untill this age range before they even start planning a family. If they are healthy enough then why not? Younger mothers have risks to. And i think older mothers are more settled and ready for it.
