I'm a nurse. No it isn't normal, you definitely damaged something in your knee and it needs to be addressed. I would see a doctor right away for this before it gets even worse.

It is not normal & as you say, it is likely to be 2 bones rubbing each other. If you are young you have more time, less if you are older. The rubbing will cause damage to the bones & the circulation in the areas immediately adjacent to the "rubbing".

Find an osteopath & get their help to put the bone(s) back into place. It is a minor manipulation & if it is not out too much, it will only take a few sessions for it to stay in place. (Assuming you do not restrain it). Knees can be very tempermental, you will have to stop putting stress on it, this means not doing exercises that compress the joint, for at least a couple of months after it has been adjusted. Also watch yourself that you do not walk or carry anything whilst at the same time turning with you body weight over the foot. (That is twisting the knee, without repositioning or lifting the foot.)

These kind of "minor injuries" are common. Often they are not dealt with until they get very painful. Then, some western doctors diagnose it to be "arthritic" & start removing pieces & parts of the soft & bony tissues, in the area of the knee. Please do not leave it that long.

Honey, I got hit by a car on my left side, had two surgeries, in California when it first happened,......but being that it was on my left side, you'd think they of x-rayed everything on my left side , since I was thrown 2 lanes over and all, right, well i kept complaining to my husband (at the time) that my left knee hurt all of the time!! Well he'd just blow me off with an answer (that it was because of the ankle surgery and the cast on my leg)right... Well when we got home back to Arizona, I had to go see a bone doctor, because of my ankle rejecting the medal plate the Cal doctor's put in there..... so I tell him ever since my accident my knee has always hurt...... He does x-rays, and finds out my ligaments behind the knee were torn completely!! So I had to have orthoscopic surgery done on my knee, replacing the ligaments with tendants, making that one my 4th surgery from that guy hitting me as a pedestrian!! So, if I were you I wouldn't mess around with the whole knee thing, and just go and get it checked out, just so you can either relax, or get on with your life having something done for it, you know.... Sorry for such a long story, but it was alot to details to get to where I needed to get to explain its nothing to mess with..... Smile!!!
