It's odd. When I started working I no longer knew how to enjoy myself on my free time. When I have free time before work I spend it looking at the clock instead of doing things I used to enjoy. I've been a huge gamer in the past but I currently have at least 10 great games that are on my hard drive unfinished. When I'm off work it seems like I think about work just as much so I can't relax easily. I even have dreams about what I do at work since it's very repetitive. What can I do to relax and get away from stress?

i have gone threw the same thing, only i dont think i quite think of work as much as you seem to,,,,, after it i mean,,,,, though i do dream of it,,,,, and pay attention to the time before going in,,,, what i find helps, is to try to isolate it,, make a certain time that you will begin to get ready for work,,,, then try to think of other things,,, relax, till that set time,,,,,, i find i exercise,,, go out shopping or eat out,,,, watch tv, etc, much more then i did before i worked,,,, i also use to be online alot,, gaming or messenging etc,,,,,,, its just not important to me now,,, but i had to find other things to fill my time with,,,,,,,, when i catch myself thinking of work when im off and its not my "get ready for work time" i just have to stop myself,,,,, move on to something else,,,,,,, your not getting paid for thinking about it or your co-workers during your off time,,,,,,, so maybe that will help, think of your job/work as your paycheck,, thats what your there for,,,,so try to also schedule in other things, develop new habits, even set aside certain times for them,,,,,, i find i do alot more, now that im working, then i ever did when i had more "free " time,, scheduling your free time might help,,,,,,

I totally relate!! when my kids were small, it just seemed like I could very easily have a "Nervous Break-down!!" Between working two jobs, at one point and raising 3 small children... running errands, taking them to their ballet & baseball ... It just seemed like their just wasn't enough of me to go around..... And I never had time for me!! But, when things did mellow way out, and I moved to another town, (where I live today). I had just the one job, and couldn't get my Mean A-- Boss , out of my head at nights!!! I always brought my job home with me each and every day, it seemed in those days!! Until, one day on my way home from work I said this has got to stop!! I went straight to the liquor store and bought one of the biggest bottles of wine I could, and a pack of cigarettes!! And mind you my children were raised-up in the Lord, and church, and never seen their mother ever smoke or drink in their entire lives, so I smoked in our backyard, while I knew they were at their friends houses, and only had two glasses of wine a day, in order to not have a hangover for work the next day, right.... Well, I hid the bottle of wine really good in a drawer in my fridge (I knew my kids would never go into).. Well weeks came and went and their were many days I didn't drink at all, when my boss was having his good days, but I still smoked .. And mind you the wine definately helped me block out my day at work, and especially my Mean Boss!!! But , I didn't drink everyday and that same bottle was in my fridge for atleast two months, before I just quit one day, (drinking & then my job).. Meanwhile, my son caught me, in the backyard smoking one time, and he says to me: "Mom you smoke???!!!" With a half smile, on his face.. I said no I dont as a matter of fact, I'm just trying it out, and I dont like it!! So, dont tell your sister & brother, please, okay...... That's when I quit smoking!! And found another job, that wasn't so stressful, & went to the doctor and got on medicine for Anxiety.... Instead of drinking.... I was putting that off for many years, because I didn't want to take pills for it.. But, it got to the point to where I was having paramedics at my house all of the time, or going to the E.R., atleast once every couple of months, before I finally gave in to medicine, for it..... It was a hard decision to make but it has helped me tremendously!!! Oh, and by the way, I have been a "Single Parent" for many years, so this medicine has improved my sleeping habits, and stress levels a great deal !!! I dont recommend you get on medicine, or start drinking wine, either..... There's "Home-Remedies" now...... You can shut down your day, by 2 tablespoons of honey at night, it has antioxidants in it , and other things that help you to sleep... Then , if your like me about sweets, there's dark chocolate, which also has antioxidants in it,.. And if I were to eat any types of sweets during the day, I would have to take a nap... So, I know better now...... But, they are GREAT, for helping me to get to sleep at night!!! Just a small peice of like those Special dark chocolate candy bars..... Not too much, just a couple of squares, just enough to help you sleep!!! But, if sweets dont make you tired, then try a cup of decaf tea, with a tsp of honey in it!! Good-Luck, to you!!! And "Sweet-Dreams" as well !!! Smile!!!!
