I think libralady has just stated this from assumption. Forehead was originally pronounced forrid - as in to rhyme with horrid - but over the years people pronounced it as it was read. There are no actual defining rules to English, so often if enough people use a word incorrectly, it becomes correct. This seems to happen in many cases, and is caused by English having so many different sources, so we would adopt a pronunciation from one language and adopt the spelling based on the rules of another.

Take out the H and you have Foreead. The word is Head related. It points to the forward part of the head. We don't spell head without the h, some may say it that way but it is not correct. The H is pronounced.

According to the E N G L I S H dictionaries, you DO NOT pronounce the "aitch" in forehead. It should be pronounced
"forr-ed", (but often isn't.)

My SOED gives "forrid" as the only pronunciation but pronouncing it as it appears is common in the USA and is spreading through the English speaking world. There are many words that are shortened in common speech that are changing their pronunciation to the way they are written. I have heard both "gunwhale"and "forecastle" pronounced as they are writtem instead of the normal "gunnel" and "fo'c'sle".

If you're speaking properly then you pronounce the "h". A lot of people miss out the "h" in colloquial context, though.
