Clan of the Cave Bear (and a series of books that follow)--Jean Auel (prehistoric man/woman)
Firebrand-- Marion Zimmer Bradley (Cassandra's version of the Trojan War)
The historical facts in these books have been painstakingly researched by the authors, and, as a result, they are wonderful, interesting reads.

I didn't like historical fiction, but my idea changed because I read these books:
Sinouhe' I'Egyptien by Mika Waltari
I read just it because *I am trying to change my idea* and it is going better very slowlllly.
