My biology teacher told us that there IS a definite answer to this question, tracing down the evolution line, but he says he wouldn't tell us unless we're still studying biology in Grade 12. Does the chicken come first or the egg?

To take a contrarian viewpoint:

The Egg.

Any evolutionary mutations that allowed for the development of the chicken occurred as the egg was formed.

As a bizarre evolutionary aberration, this first egg was created abnormally and deviated from previous eggs.

And it became the first chicken.

The real question is:

What came before the chicken OR the egg?

There was a prototype, of chicken, there were many like him, starting from a mutation of a previous bird species. The little genetic changes in aeons of evolution, result in the birth of an evolved bird, we call chicken. But this was an slow process, so actually the first thing was the egg, a mutated egg, which gave birth to the first mutated bird, with chicken like characteristics. You can also say it was the bird who came first, but that bird was born from the egg, so it rally is the egg, at least scientifically

Fredric Cohen (1959 advert- ) referred to that, had the egg come first, there could have been no hen (hen) to place it, sit down on it and save it heat, so a stay chick will possibly under no circumstances have hatched from it. So the egg desires a hen. The question now's the place did that first hen come from? If basically an egg that's laid by utilising a hen and which will hatch right into a hen might properly be seen a hen egg: Then the 1st hen got here from a various form of egg (not a hen egg) and laid the 1st hen egg. for this reason eggs (customarily) got here first, the hen got here after, and the hen egg got here final.

Chicken....
A chicken (Gallus gallus domesticus) is a type of domesticated bird which is often raised as a type of poultry. It is believed to be descended from the wild Indian and south-east Asian Red Junglefowl.

With a population of more than 24 billion in 2003,[1] there are more chickens in the world than any other bird. They provide two sources of food frequently consumed by humans: their meat, and eggs.

The chicken had to come first.Chickens had to evolve from a lower life form .Eggs could not evolve, because their life span is so short.

The chicken, because you need a chicken to have and nurture the egg.
