First make sure you don't have a floppy or CD in. Then clean it thoroughly. Your fan may be getting clogged up.
Could be the head on your hard drive is starting to fail and you are in danger of a head crash. Shut down and unplug the power. Take the power cable off of the hard drive and start up. See if it's still making the noise. If so, it's not the hard drive. If there's no noise, it is. I would slave another hard drive to your main one and back everything up. Remember - hard drives aren't costly. It's all the data stored on it that you can't replace.

There are a lot of wise cracks out there, i had the same problem i found that if u turn of or mute the AUX control or if u have a extra Line in mute that to if it is not being used. Also if u have a switch on your mic turn it of if you are not useing it, and finally turn down your WAV volume control a little. Hope this helps. I use a Creative Audigy Platignum zs Pro.

Yeah i know what it is, your hard drive. The only phisical moving part in your pc is your fan and your hard drive, since fan is constantly rotating, when it goes wrong it makes a vibrating noise. Hard drive has a little arm inside it and like an old record player when it tries to get outside the disk area it makes a crackling noise, sorry to be bearer of bad news but I advise you to backup and change your hard drive before too late, IBM Hitachhy drives are famous fo it. Speaking from experience.

Could be the hard disc/drive that is not screwed up well. Maybe the ventilator too. Got same prob b4, a sound that really irritates ur ear. No one did able to fix it. So i called the manufacturer to pick my PC/box & they replaced it w/ a new one. Good for now. So try to ask help too from the shop or from the manufaturer itself.

try checking these things:
- hard disk, a faulty hard disk will make a lot of noise, while spinning or while spinning up it will be a noise like a metal hitting another metal, this happens because of the hard disk arm hitting the side.
-Fans. may be some fans are hitting the casing, or the LED attached to your fan( this happened to me once). Also try to check other hardwares fan like , north chip set (if you have one), CPU, graphic cards PSU fan....blah blah bla
-Check your PSU (There might be short circuit)
-check your CD/DVD-ROM Drive, (May be that the drive is damaged by entering 2 cd's in one tray or the belt is gone.
sorry thats all i can think of right now......
EDIT: oh yeah, try turning off your speakers when starting to make sure it ain't coming from the speakers

sounds like it could be your hard drive wearing out, mine made a similar noise shortly before packing in. Luckily it was a second hard drive and not the main one

Try re-booting. If this doesn't work, you need to take it to a computer shop, or pay for someone to come to your home & fix it.
