I believe Australia should stop immigration until there is no homeless, unemployed, poverty stricken or needy people of our own to take care of. Am I wrong in thinking that giving jobs & education to Australians should be our first priority in these situations?

My god, yes. You are NOT wrong. We are having the same horrible problem with the illegal mexicans here in America. They contribute nothing to the country except crime and third world customs.

Well before we contemplate that sort of isolation i think we have to change our attitude about buy Australian Support Australian. If you are referring to Australia and not some other coutry like USA or wherever.
Currently we don't recognise work that is done by many talented Australians for the betterment of the country and the world.
Much research and development only receives its funds when it is taken overseas and as a result Australia misses out. There is alo the worry of a brain drain when these clever people vacate due to the frustration of poor support for their contribution.

We need the skill of many migrants and I think Australia has benefitted greatly from abandoning the White Australia Policy.

If we are going to stop migration it should be on the premise that we don't have sufficient water supplies to support and increase the population. Otherwise i would say NO! we get our strength from our many diverse resident cultures.

no, you're not wrong in thinking that. but closing borders is not necessarily the solution to any of those issues.
what if some foreigner was wanting to come and build schools, factories, and homeless shelters?
we have the same mentality here in the US, thinking that closed borders is a "solution".
more open borders and more people working together is a better solution.
(just my opinion, mate)
