We want to try to do the right thing, even if its not the easy thing. Maybe sometimes we get it wrong (horribly wrong like Iraq, for instance) but we want to try anyway. The alternative is to sit back & criticise everyone else.

depends on the kind of pioneering. They certainly pioneered the way of invasion of other countries than soft mick, they created an empire and strutted thier stuff, the enemies they created in their exploits are coming back to haunt them. The empire is gone now so is the power so to remain in top layer they have to form alliances with the big boys who just happens to be america who in turn have upset a lot people who want some pay back thus we have the terrorist thing.Iraq seems to be a personal thing between the bush family and sadam hussien which the brits had to go along with because to be my freind you must help me in my need.Gobal warming just a bad summer or unusual weather it took the british goverment long enough to realise what was happening and as for the poineering the european countries where there first

Very good point. Yes I have often thought the same thing. Great minds think alike as they say... I'm not, and I'm sure the person who posed this point/question is saying we shouldn't anything at all, but our Government does appear to worry about everywhere else and believes it can single handedly save the world, it all gets a bit wearisome after a while and it's us on the home front that appear to suffer first by paying for it out of our taxes. This in turn makes ourselves less competitive in the global market because we are more expensive to deal with than other countries. We appear to have our finger pressed on the self destruct button while our politicians appear to fly round the globe every couple of days (causing more pollution) seeking glory and fame (for themselves)

One day in possibly say 500 years just has we take our troops out of Iraq.you might say Come back Britain all is forgiven .Any way when the ice cap melts and there is a new land Antarctica a vast new country will want millions of Immigrants.Who will be the Pioneers of that.under what banner will that be?

Britain is always at the forefront of development in most areas, whether they be art, science, technology, or something else.

The world will always be jealous of our ingenuity, our flair and skill, and our steadfast determination to lead this planet kicking and screaming into whatever era lies before us.

We British always play by the rules - it's only a pity that our allies cannot grasp this selfless spirit, and instead seek to benefit from our ideas at our expense.

I wonder.....just wonder....if the pionering spirit on green issues isn't a front for something else, and if it is, I want paying for the idea because I came up with it three years ago.

How do you stop things being transported half-way around the world when they are manufactured in China, India and Vietnam?

A carbon-tax perhaps?

exactly we are all wondering when!!..we always seem to be in the thick of it!! why not take a step back Britain and just remember we don't have an empire anymore and lets just get our own house in order and let some of the ASIAN countries do some policing for a change, I am sick of keep on having taxes forced on me to pay for all this interfering! if we closed our door we would be so much better off financially and community wise
