Thunder is the sound of lightning ripping through the air. The amount of energy in it, which is easy to obtain since you just put up a microphone to convert it to electricity, is very small. You would be better off capturing the sound of traffic, including those cars with boom box sound systems.

The acoustic energy released by lightning in the form of thunder propagates out in all direction, so to trap it you would have to wrap the lightning bolt with whatever transponder you came up with. And if you were somehow able to do that with the accuarcy needed you would be better off in siphoning off the energy of lightning by electrical means.
