Hi,
I'm writing a novel about a possible origin of the gods, and I just needed some clarification on the Egyption Sun God, Ra / Re. His father was Nush, and his mother was Ea, right? Who came first, Amun, or Ra? I know they kind of alternated and eventually joined as primary deities. Did he have any direct siblings or offspring?
Anyway, if I could just get the story of his origin and his rise to power, I'd really appreciate it
Thanks :)

OK... gonna be very blunt here.

If you are going to write a novel about something, you should know a little more than an answer you are going to get from YA about it.

A good novelist researches his topic, becomes familiar with it, eats, sleeps and lives with it, so that the novel comes across as knowledgeable and some what accurate, from which to launch your possibilities.

If you knew anything about Egyptian culture and pantheons, you would know that the stories are not dependent on time, but location. And that time set the stories but location evolved them.

So, go back to the books. John Romer is a good place to start - Daily Lives - I don't remember the title off hand. And stay away from Budge! Soak yourself in it. No book is worth it without the research and work. Remember that.

Read the Heliopolis myth of the evolution of Ra. He came out of the primeval waters of Nu. Manifesting himself as a soul named Khepera (morning-midday sun). Then he manifested himself as Atum (sun at dawn). The mystery is when he refers to himself as Osiris in the myth. This means Ra was 3 gods in 1. The soul was Nebertcher, the spirit was Kephera and Atum and in the flesh he was Osiris. Osiris was Nebertcher (RA) the radiance in the flesh. He was the walking God.

I think there is some link between Ra and the Christian Satan. The superior being that ultimately gave homo-sapiens their freedom.
