What specifies 'no one'? Is a squirrel anyone? A squirrel could have heard it, but we can't ask it! This question irritates me so much! The issue, as I have grasped it over the years, is that you cannot prove that the tree falls scientifically because no one has witnessed it for themselves. But the presence of a human or lack there of does not change the basic idea that when an object hits another object, it almost always makes a sound! I've read what the second answerer said, saying that sound is vibrations off of our ears, which is why I mention that squirrel! The squirrel's ears vibrated when the tree fell, but can we ask it? Nope, because we don't talk to squirrels (that I know of >.>). Hope this is interesting enough for me to have not wasted your time, -Meg

Yes. Most people will be grateful If the power company cut it and left it... they are expecting someone who can use it to pick it up - benefitting both them and you.
Keep your eyes open for any objections. Everyone's different. If the property owner approaches you be contrite and explain: " I wanted to seek permission, but didn't know who to ask. If I cannot have this wood I'll gladly lay it back down."
It's the truth. You'll always be fine with that.

Yes, if it's not stacked neatly there on someone's property. My father in law and my husband sometimes get wood for the woodstove that way. Another good place to get it is go to businesses with lots of wood pallets and ask them if you can take them. The oak makes great fires.

You can do anything at all and will do everything in the course of your eternal existance in God but it is not always to your pleasure to do all things in every part of your life. If you are caught taking wood even deadfalls they call them in a state or federal protected land area there could be serious charges and punishments, even from private land. You can obtain permits from some forest services to take specific deadfalls, and or ask for written permit from private property owners. I suggest you do this to cover yourself as best you can to protect you from liability.
