India is not considered a developing country because so much of India's population is poverty-stricken. Although I've been to India and seen a lot of advanced technology, the country supposedly is not developed. The demographic transition model shows us that the birth rate exceeds the death rate, therefore causing the population the grow. However, medical advances are proving to be efficient, so the birth rate will decrease. Most developed countries, such as the U.S. have a birth rate almost equal to death rate, therefore the poulation is stable. However, some European countries have death rates exceeding birth rate, therefore the population is decreasing. India has yet to meet those standards. Also, although India's standard of living is projected to rise sharply in the next half-century, it currently battles high levels of poverty, persistent malnutrition, and environmental degradation. And no, it is not because they worship monkeys and cows. They consider cows sacred and they do not worship monkeys. That is stereotypical and an offensive thing to say.

Why India is not developing as a country like America is for one very special reason: PHILOSOPICAL BASIS OF THE CULTURE.
In India, people have been taught for thousands of years that they are born into a particular caste and that's their lot in life, and there is no way to change that. An Untouchable is an Untouchable, even if he is multi-millionaire. The Hindu concepts of karma, dharma and reincarnation also shape people's attitudes toward life, making them more likely to accept their lot in life, their fate, rather than to fight against it.
America has a very different PHILOSOPHICAL BASIS. All men are created equal, and all have certain basic rights that come from being a human. These rights do not come from any government or religion. They exist in our very nature as people.
Because everyone is equal under the law, there are no social class distinctions. The result is that everybody can move up or down in society by his own choice and effort. America has always encouraged individualism and creativity. Be the best you can be. Reach for the stars. . . .
The very dense population of India is also working against India developing faster. The infrastructure of India is lagging far behind the population spurt. Poverty is endemic. India lacks the natural resources to support this vast population in anything like the American population is supported.
America, a vast country, now with a population that last month reached 300 million, still could handle more people, and has the natural resources to support the increase.

They are more developed in some ways. World class health care is a steal. They don't start frivilous wars.
