Drinking water, and not too many soft drinks, alcahol etc.
Taking evening primrose and fish oil capsules really work well.
I am allergic to HRT and have used these natural remedieas for years, and they work well.
Cut down on salt, sugar, fat and starchy foods too.
All the omega 3s 6 and I think 12 too help.
Eat good fresh fruit and just a handful of nuts a day.
Fresh vegies especially leafy greens, and steer clear of the red, orange fruits vegs.
Eat fish and chicken more than you did before, 2 serves of red meat a week is enough.
A good walk or swim morning and night also help.
Also berries and yoghurt with acidophillis are great boosters.
A piece of fresh ginger in a cup of tea, rubbed on chicken, fish and meat before you cook.
Ginger, garlic and onions & celery are things that are really well known for this problem and many others, as is the fish oil and evening primrose , can get them in one combo capsule.
Keep clothing loose, don,t wear tight clothes, and also wear clothes in layers is a good tip, to help keep you comfortable.
Can take off, put on as you need, also keeping hair cut or up, helps to feel cool calm and collected, lol.
Good luck.

I use Bio-Identical hormones NOT HRT.
http://www.womentowomen.com/bioidentical-hrt/talkingtodoctor.asp?id=1&campaignno=getoffhrt&adgroup=adgroup4&keywords=bio+identical+hormones
I use a local Compounding Pharmacy. The Pharmist is acutally more informed than most doctors on this too.

The products sold at the health food stores are helpful but a 1 size fits all, it is best to get products made just for what is happening in your body.

No black cohosh, no soy products. Those will cause even worse symptoms. Most women don't realize it but we are estrogen dominant from all the hormones in our foods and in our daily use products. These cause our hormones to get out of balance and cause the estrogen to go into dominance. What you need is natural bio-identical progesterone to balance the hormones. You are definitely on the right track with not wanting to take HRT's as those can increase your estrogen dominance and cause cancer. But you must be careful on what kind of progesterone you get because there are lots of them out there that say they are natural but have other ingredients in them that keep the progesterone from working properly. A good cream must have 400-450mg of progesterone per ounce in it. It also must not contain any synthetic form of glycerin, petroleum or mineral oils in it, as these will clog the pores of the skin and make it hard for the
progesterone to get into the blood stream. It must not contain phyto-estrogens, which are: Black Cohosh, Dong Quai,
Red Clover, Licorice Root and Siberian Ginseng. These will stimulate our own estrogens and if we are already estrogen dominant, we don't want to use a product that is going to continually stimulate the estrogen. If you would like to know more I have a yahoo group with all sorts of files on just this kind of information. Let me know.

Few years to go for me but when the time comes i will look into chinese herbal medicine. A lot can be had in pill form now. Not sure on homeopathy though.

Found this:
"In traditional Chinese medicine, numerous herbal formulas reportedly can alleviate hot flashes and other menopausal symptoms such as fatigue, headache, and menstrual irregularities."

Please read Suzanne Somers' new book, Ageless. It is very helpful in this area. There is nothing wrong with bioidentical hrt, or BHRT. It is the synthetic hrt that you should worry about. There is absolutely no reason to continue to suffer, when you don't have to. BHRT is truly the fountain of youth, and it's not very expensive. Ask your local compounding pharmacist about a referral to a practitioner in your area who promotes BHRT, and I am sure you will no longer be suffering.

what's wrong with HRT? You can get effective, safe bio-identical hormones via a rich cream that you simply rub into your skin. Why suffer or spend months trying herbs or things when the relief is so easy? If you can apply lotion to your skin, you can be balanced and happy.

Try Wild Yam capsules. It supplies the body with hormonal precusors. I have know many woman who have gotten relief by taking it. You might also consider taking Dandelion Leaf capsules to help your liver. The liver stores estrogen and when it gets overloaded, it cannot function properly. I have seen this combination completely stop peri-menopausal activity in women under 50.
