It sounds like a control switch. If the units agitates during the washing cycle but won't spin you know it's not the belt. Check out www. ekbdc.com for other tips. Good Luck!

not sure if its top load or how old but it could be the lid switch. When you close the machine there will be a safety switch that gets depressed. there is a plastic plunger on lid (on most) that engages switch. If that is broken or the plunger broken that will stop it. Also could be timer, if its the timer you can advance it a little and see if that works . I'd check lid switch most likely culprit the newer ones are mostly plastic and can crack and fall then plunger doesn't make them engage.. they are a cheap part but I have no idea how handy you are

At first I thought Is it belt driven or if older washer chain driven?
Check to see if slipped or broken.

Newer washer ? --- Could be bad circuit / wire connected to the information circuit of the washer so that it doesn't know when to go into the next cycle. Most washers come with a wiring diagram located under the rear coverplate of the machine.

All else fails call a repair man or buy a new washer.

lid switch you don't say what brand washer it is but all have a lid switch that means the lid must be closed before it will spin this switch sometimes goes bad try locating the switch and by passing it like jumping across it good luck

you could put the cloths on and run around until they are dry but I don't think that will work either just make sure it is not to heavy or just put it on spin dry maybe it is on drip dry
