My 2 male dwarf hamsters, about 6 months old were fighting for about a week, then one got really violent and badly scratched the other, so i took the violent one out and had to buy a new cage for it, but the new cage is different to the other and he doesn't like it. He stays in his little sleeping area all the time, he is hardly eating at all and drinks very little. He was shy when i first got him but he then became less shy and have recently been able to hold him without him struggling, but now in his new cage, if i put a hand in he runs away scared of me, he has changed so much in his personality and i'm worried if he carries on like this he'll die, please can somebody give me some advice as i am so worried about him! Thanks a lot

i'd put some of the bedding in and sawdust from the old cage so it smells familiar, if not swap them over and see if other one settles in new cage,

I don't think he will die. He might be feeling a bit disorientated. I once had a rat that was extremely shy like that and it just took some time and trust for her to become more confident. Try to put lots of interesting things in the cage to stop him from getting bored. Don't poke your hands in unless you need to clean the cage, try to let him come out. Use little yummy treats to entice him out and reward him (like banana or bread). When u do take him out try sitting with him gently and quietly so he learns that its nice.
It will take a bit of patience but I'm sure it will be fine. I'ts not always a good idea to get two male rodents of any sort because they will usually fight. Getting a female would be disasterous. Concentrate on the ones you have.

My 2 "male" hamsters were acting the same way so i got one a new cage he was acting really weird though not eating and stuff about one week later SHE had 7 baby's!! turns out pets-smart sold me a girl hamster so i took the baby up to pets mart and told them they were going to buy all those baby's from me. and once they were old enough they did.
If thats not it maybe u should try putting him back in his old cage and putting the other one in the new cage
Hope he turns out okay.

Maybey you could do some research on your breed of hamsters. Some breeds are solitary, others NEED company. He could be lonely.
They were probably fighting over territory. And you taking him out, means he lost. Swaping them might help, but clean both cages very well, so all odors will be gone.
A friend of mine had the same thing. They also bought a second cage, and it worked well. They put the cages side by side, so they could see/hear/smell each other.

have you thought that your hamster maybe missing the other one! even though they fight!
perhaps it would be a good idea to put the cages next to each other so at least they can see each other but not fight!
he may also of hurt itself in the fight and could possibly do with a trip to the vet!
i really dont think its the cage thats bothering him.

He won't die, he's had a big change and he's just getting used to it. Its like you moving to a new house and having to find your way around, thats all. Just take your time, keep putting your hand in with tasty treats and don't rush him trying to pick him up.

Maybe he's lonely and wants a friend, or it might just need time to get used to his new cage.
If this continues you should take him to a vet.

He maybe lonely... you should talk to him and bribe him out of his sleeping area with food or treats (not too many)... he just need to get used to being alone... my parents think i am stupid when i talk to my hamster but she likes it and always comes out when i talk to her. x Good Luck cheering your hamster up :D x

there is not any longer a lot meat i imagine. i have eaten a rabbit earlier, i wager it tastes type of like that. like difficulty-free chicken. it truly is nice notwithstanding (rabbit), i fried it in a frying pan with vegatable oil.

Why don't you swap them around...... see how the other one likes the new cage?
