does anyone know of a site other than ebay and amazon (I've checked) that might be helpful?

Try to contact the publisher via its web site. For example, I have owned a hardcover of "The Master and Margarita" by Mikhail Bulgakov with a misspelt word and thus I sent a message last week informing the Random House's web site on the problem, a day later I was informed to bring the book for refund or exchange at the nearest bookstore.
