I don't think it is, but I think the facts about the death penalty speak for themselves-

The death penalty is not a deterrent. Homicide rates are much higher in states that have the death penalty than in states that do not.

The death penalty system costs much more than a system that does not have the death penalty. Much of these extra costs come way before the appeals begin. (In my opinion, some of the extra money should be spent on victims' services, which are underfunded.)

More and more states have life without parole on the books. It means what it says and is no picnic to be locked up for 23 of 24 hours a day, with no hope of anything else.

Over 120 people on death rows have been released with evidence of their innocence. It is human nature to make mistakes and executing an innocent person, killing an innocent person in our name should be unacceptable in a civilized society.

Speeding up the process will certainly result in the execution of innocent people, some people just like us, our families and friends. Yes, ordinary, law abiding people have been sentenced to death, spent years on death rows, and, thankfully, were saved in time.

The death penalty can be very hard on the families of murder victims. As the process goes on they are forced to relive their ordeal in the courts and in the media. The death penalty revictimizes families of murder victims. Life without parole is sure and swift and rarely appealed.

People who oppose the death penalty do not condone brutal and depraved acts and do not excuse the people who commit them.

The death penalty is not an effective way to keep us safe, prevent crime. Whether it is morally justified or not is up to each person to decide for him or herself.

Absolutely. Unfortunately it is often applied to those who are just too stupid to function in civilized society. In other words, to those to whom it really didn't serve as a deterrent.

What really needs to happen to make it effective is to put an end to the ten, fifteen, twenty year Death Row appeals process, and also to expand it to apply to White Collar crime.

It is definitely cruel and barbaric to leave a condemned prisoner on Death Row for two decades, both to the victim's family and to the condemned prisoner. There should be one appeal with in thirty days of sentencing and if that appeal fails the sentence should be carried out within 72 hours.

Secondly, most murders are committed in the heat of the moment by people of relatively low IQ. Most can't think ahead to tomorrow let alone ponder long term consequences. The criminals who most deserve execution are those such as the Enron gang, whose greed and conniving destroyed thousands of lives.

There will always be murder, but if they televised the hangings of the first 25 White Collar thieves you would see a massive reduction in those crimes. Those people have the IQ to understand the ramifications. Put it on Pay-Per-View and split the proceeds among the victims.

Were the heinous crimes they committed for which they were sentenced to death morally justified? Better to ask the grieving family members who have to go the rest of their lives in pain because of the evil actions of some lunatic.

* yes.putting such persons (doing heinous crimes) to death is totally justified.
* first of all we should imagine/place themselves ; in the cloth's of families who suffered.if such a crime (deserving capital punishment) is committed to any of us or our family members ; what would be our reaction.
* by putting them behind bars for life is irrelevent.why should government and tax payers(like us) should waste money and time by providing free accommodation, medical facilities and food throughout life.
