change Toshiba Power Settings in control panel. Adjust power scheme to Always On or DVD Play for maximum brightness.

If this or FN F7 doesn't work, is the screen really dark all the time? If so, time for a new monitor. the backlight may be dead. Since the backlight is part of the monitor, they have to be replaced together, and they share the same power cable to the motherboard. check the website below

hold down the function key [Fn] and press the key that brightens your screen, you will have to see wich one it is in the f keys at top into go on to Toshiba web

hold down the function key [Fn] and press the key that brightens your screen, it will likely be one of the Fkeys (mine are F6 and F7)
