I use Clorox 2 on my colors, darks, and even a little on the delicates. I use regular Clorox on the underwear and other whites, and even on my bath towels (which were obviously already white when I bought them). I use the regular Clorox because it kills the germs on the underwear and towels. The Clorox 2 on everything else really helps. Before I used the Clorox 2 on everything except the whites, the underarm area of my shirts still smelled after they had been washed. Now they smell really nice when they come out of the washer and even better when they come out warm out of the dryer. Also, if you leave the clothes in the dryer too long, they can absorb some of the odor in the air outside. This is because the dryer has a vent that leads to the outside and that can cause the outdoor odors (like pollution odors like smog) to enter the dryer. Your clothes would then smell like the smog, or in my area of the country during the winter they would end up smelling like a wood fireplace or burning leaves. The answer is to move the clothes out of the washer promptly and remove from the dryer promptly and they'll smell fresh. Also, using too much detergent actually makes the clothes dirty faster because the extra detergent creates a film on the clothes that makes the dirt/body smell stay. That sounds contradictory but it's true! Also, a dryer sheet is better than the liquid fabric softener because the softener used in the washer will often just get washed off in the last rinse or the last spin cycle. Hope this helps!

You may have washed the clothes in a place where the water is bad. We have really bad water here and at times the water smells. Or you may have previousely washed a dog blanket or something with a strong odor that lingers. About the only thing you can do is make sure the tub is clean. Run a wash cycle with bleach water or use a fabric softener to inprove the smell after you makes sure the tub is clean. If you leave wet clothes in the washer too long they become musty and smell real bad. It is very hard to get rid of that smell and it may take a couple of washings. They can sit in the dryer after they are dry but don't let them sit wet. They will eventually get moldy.

it would depend on what type clothes and what type smell you are talking about,,,,,, adding a little baking soda to the wash water often helps for darks,,,,,, and a little bleach for whites,,,,,, also, dont use to much detergent,, i always use less then what is recommended on the box, as sometimes that detergent smell is yucky and doesnt all rinse out,,,,, finally, try a dryer sheet (softener) that you toss in the dryer,,,, there are different fragrances you can get

My clothes smell nasty if ive washed them and left them in the washing machine, wet for a while. All i tend to do is re wash, and then in future make sure stuff is taken out as soon as cycle has finished!!

do u leave them in the machine for ages when they have finished? this makes clothes smell nasty - and they will need to be re-washed!
try putting the 'rinse hold' on if your machine has one - then u can spin and take them out when u are ready - or u could try using fabric softener maybe.
hope this helps!
