I've been researching pedophilia on the Internet so that I can write an essay or a book about it. I've been reading about NAMBLA (North American Man Boy Love Association) as well as the Dutch Pedophile Association among others. I've been to many message boards and forums where pedophiles meet and talk about the "childlove movement." I have noticed that many of these pedophiles, although they like children, do not want to sexually abuse them or harm them in any way.

Suppose I know someone who admitted to me that he or she is a pedophile, should I report this person into the police or shouldn't I? If a person is a pedophile does that mean he or she is dangerous?

Yeah, this may sound unbelievable, but pedophiles tried to found a political party in Holland last year.

They tried to uphold the image of being a regular party even though their programme says they want to legalise sex with adults for children from the age of 12, and eventually even wanting it to go towards zero.

Seriously.

Of course, they never got enough signatures to even try to get in. But that's to be expected.

But to answer your question, I think pedophilia is a complex situation wherein someone may be influenced by the sex in the media. Most of the time, pedophilia stems from a trauma or large event in one's life, and that makes the person irresponsible for their actions anyway. But as some people proclaim they're just born that way, they believe they should be treated just like any heterosexual or homosexual person, in equality. These are probably the people that nothing is fundamentally wrong with. Although you might not want them playing with kids.

i understand what you are saying. Pedophilia is a mental thing they can not help themselves though they say they may not want to harm children they still will, it's a sexual fantasy or fetish that arouses them these people need help before it's too late and do harm a child in any way. friend or not CHILDREN'S welfare if at risk must come first even if it hasn't happened yet. most pedophiles will at some point abduct or sexual harm a friends or family's child. this is a serious matter and you do know someone who's a risk to children then DO the right thing and report it before it's to late. Many children die because of pedophiles because there body's are not ready developed for sexual actions.

Yes, of course they can be "good" people. That's how they lure these young boys and girls into their sickness.

They are smiling and so nice and so mature and nobody ever thinks so and so is a pedophile until it's too late.

They can be competant in their professions/jobs and even well respected in their communities.

Pedophiles often say on tv when they are interviewed that they never hurt any of their child vicitims always professing that they only had sex with them and the kind of sex was painless to the child and all this and that.

But a child victim of a pedarist is being harmed, greatly, as their bodies are being violated, their sexual boundaries are getting all messed up, their perception of adults is changed for the worse, behavior problems start popping up in all areas of life.

NAMBLA is alive and well in the large urban area in which I live. They instruct adults on how to seduce children. This is a criminal group, period. Nothing good about them at all.

Go with your conscience. I can't imagine if i had a feeling that a guy was a real pedophile and i didn't do anything about it, and he hurt somebody... you'd be protected by a "good intentions" law if you reported him, so i say, why not?

Yes they are dangerous, especially for little children. They cannot control or don't want to control their actions. You never know when the urge might become too strong and who they will go after. Once they have done this to a child they won't stop, no matter how much therapy they get. They just get better at being able to cover it up. Like threatening the child, or doing it to children who cannot communicate, such as the handicap, and murdering the child. Do you honestly think people like this can be good? What they do to the children mentally as well as physically I wouldn't wish on my worst enemy. If they didn't want to harm them, then they wouldn't be having sex with them. Nor want to.

"I have noticed that many of these pedophiles, although they like children, do not want to sexually abuse them or harm them in any way."

If you were one of their victims would you be easy prey? I am sure many of them use the tactic of trying to get their victim to feel sorry for them. Raping, molesting, and sometimes ending a child's life by committing murder is dangerous - there is no question. There may be those who have been falsely accused out there, then and only then could a person accurately make that statement.

Well, as long as they don't hurt them... That being said, I once saw a documentary on TV about that, and they were showing someone who didn't act out his impulses, but who still watched pics of naked children... I thought that was really gross, because it still creates a market for child pornography. I think I would report the person. You never know...

Also, if I had kids, I wouldn't want my kids to be around him. I can be pretty open minded for a lot of things, but not for that.

I have a question: why are there such associations? What do they do? Is it to prevent pedophiles to act out their sick fantasies?

I work with peds everyday and trust them in a locked setting of a mental hospital and actually they are nice people but the story changes when they get back into society.Too much temptation in the community and the treatment takes second place, getting thier jollies takes first place.Kinda like a pizza at a weight watchers meeting.Report,Report,Report them ASAP.

I'd report them.

I don't believe that any of us is a "good" person, we are all wicked in our hearts and if given the opportunity, most of us will do evil.

Pedophilia is a mental disorder that people are indeed born with-but unlike homosexuality, it is in no way a sexual orientation, rather a sickness. Being attracted to children is not natural.
