A person may be faithful in a marriage for years (as I was 17 years) but if the other spouse is unfaithful and divorces them, it is not fair for the person to continue to remain celebate forever..had the partner also been faithful, they might have done that but with the multitudes having premarital sex and rampant divorces, what you said is only possible if the person resolves to remain a virgin till marriage and they and their partner both remain faithful (unless the one who was cheated on remains celebate for the remainder of their live even if divorced. Most people will not do this so it is a matter, essentially of both values and luck. This scenario was much more common in the generation that fought in WWII than now and this is also society's fault not only the participants for not encouraging this, laughing at it, media showing casual sex on first date almost every movie, and ease of divorce among other factors.
Also with the event of talk lines and the internet..it is much easier to find someone to cheat with and men lie to women about marital status too..with the event of the chat lines even having categories like looking for discreet relationship or sexual encounter, with the ease of hiding real phone numbers with cell phones and one's identity..one is not at the risk of getting caught they once were..so society is also to blame for this.

I know 3 people who have only ever slept with one person in their life. They have been in relationships w/ their partners for 8, 10 & 28 years.........However I will point out that of those 3 people i know off, all of their siginificant others HAVE slept with someone prior to the start of their relationship.
So I guess the harder question would be.. is there a COUPLE out there that have only slept with each other and no one else? I'd be interested to know that!

The latest data says that 95% of Americans have premarital sex.
Very sad and it leads to another statistic...
1 in 4 high school seniors will graduate with an STD.
I am married, first and only husband, for 8 years. I hope to go 80 more!!
