If you don't want to be pregnant, you should be using effective birth control.
The ovulatory cycles and menstruation cycles are separate and while they SHOULD be in concert to allow for pregnancy when the uterus is ready, they often are not.
People DO get pregnant by having sex during their periods or during nursing or whatever other old fashioned methods people used for protection.
We have modern technology to make unwanted pregnancies much more rare. Why take a chance?

It's more than unlikely. Your period is generally every 28 days. Your egg drops on about the 12th day.. which means when the egg is dropping is when you're most likely to get pregnant. So: from the first day of your period, count out 12-14 days and those days are the days you're highly likely to get pregnant. You can't get pregnant on your period (well, it's not likely) because your egg has already passed through many days before. That's why ppl say if you insist on having unprotected sex.. you should do WHILE you're on your period, just in case.

There is another way of answering the question i.e. when is the fertile period?
People who have heard about the menstrual cycle and ovulation may commonly and mistakenly assume, for contraceptive purposes, that menstrual cycles always take a regular 28 days, and that ovulation always occurs 14 days after beginning of the menses. This assumption may lead to unintended pregnancies. Note too that not every bleeding event counts as a menstruation, and this can mislead people in their calculation of the fertile window.
If a woman wants to conceive, the most fertile time occurs between 19 and 10 days prior to the expected menses. Many women use ovulation detection kits that detect the presence of the LH surge in the urine to indicate the most fertile time. Other ovulation detection systems rely on observation of one or more of the three primary fertility signs (basal body temperature, cervical fluid, and cervical position).
Therefore from the above report I would conclude that there is a slim chance that you will get pregnant. Its not the number of times... Its the number of days after the begining of menses.
Best wishes and Good LUCK!!

ok so everyone says "ive got pregnant on my period" but its like, so you never had sex even once when you were off of it the rest of that month, so dont listen to them. the reason your getting your period is because your releasing all of the blood and the unfertalized egg(that egg can not get you pregnant because your loosing all of the "nutrieance", blood, it would have used to grow. usually girls ovulate 7-10 days after there period. unless you ovulated right after your period ended(very rare chance) you wont get prenant. also really the sperm that actually is good sperm (60% of sperm is defetive with 2 head, or 2 tails etc) and is trying to find an egg, will all be flushed out with everything else, and even if some do stay they die within 5 days, and the chances of you ovuation within 5 days is rare. im sure the people that have got pregnant after having sex on there period, really think that its because of that time, but really it was another. i know many girls (atleast 10) who have sex on there period but other then that use a condom, and have never ot pregnant, just realize, there is a .1% chance you might get pregnant, but rare rare rare. get on the birth control pill, it works. also do not stress, i onetime stressed on getting my period 2 weeks before my period and that made me a week late, talk about nerve racking huh? well have fun be safe

It is possible although not terribly likely. Sperm can live inside you for 72 hours so if you ovulate within that time you could become pregnant, it is by no means a good choice for birth control. Most women ovulate 14 days after the start of their cycle.

You could get pregnant any time you have unprotected sex. Though, chances are slim, when you are on your period, though you can't rule it out esp. because he came inside you! You have the highest likelihood of getting pregnant while having unprotected sex when you are ovulating.

Yes. It depends upon where the egg is. The period is flushing out the old egg.. but the new one is not far behind. Some women have had pregnancy while the egg was still in the falopian tube!! They've had to have surgery to get the fetus to where he/she needed to be... so YES you can... the best time for pregnancy is RIGHT after a period.. that is ovulation when the tube lays its egg in the uterus.. so during a cycle.. it just depends upon where that egg is.. and there is no way to tell....
Just have safe sex... you know the ways.
