It's one day until my birthday and many people seem to have forgotten it. I do not know what to do today. Do i have to remind people that it is my birthday tomorrow and ask for gifts or just let people surprise me?

Fair enough. I really don't care about the gifts. The real gift to me is if they remember my birthday, that means a lot to me..

Happy soon to be Birthday! Usually the day before my Birthday, I bake a cake for myself. Sounds silly, I know. But at least that way, even if nobody else gives me a gift, I have something to indulge on. When I was younger, my parents used to buy me cakes every year, now that I'm married, they still remember, but seldom buy me those cakes. Keep in mind that there is a possibilty that MAYBE they've "forgotten" your Birthday because they are throwing you a surprise party! This is your special day and I would understand why you'd be upset if others forgot about it, I've been in your position before too. But with me, I usually give people around me a heads up a week in advance telling them that my Birthdays coming up! lol.

I don't really care for people making a big deal about my birthday. If they remember and give me a card or something, that's great. But I don't expect it.
I would say you don't need to drop hints or anything else. The people who care about you will remember it's your birthday.
Related true story: The second birthday after I got married I kept quited about my bday all day long just because I didn't know what my wife might have planned. She totally forgot. The next day I woke up in a foul mood and didn't even tell her why for most of the day. When I finally did tell her she tried to play it off as if she had confused my bday with her dad's which was the next day. The only problem was she didn't say anything to me that day either. That was about 11 years ago and it's part of the reason I don't make much of a deal about my birthday now.
Honestly, remembering or not remembering a person's birthday is not proof of caring. And if you go reminding people it's your birthday, don't you think the Happy Birthday's you get are going to be less than genuine wishes.

If you want something like gifts, just remind as many people as you can, then see what happens.
When my Birthday comes, I try to reflect on my Life in terms of how I reached the point in life where I am at and where I need to go in Life to reach my goals....There is nothing wrong with a little reflection about one's own life at least once a year....It would be a better World if everyone did this...
It is probably too late for me to give you a material gift, but I hope that what is written above gives you something to think about!

i never forget my birthday, and i usually go out with my friends, and celebrate it with all the people i love, i had a day for my parents, one with colleagues, one with my Friends and another with my husband, this year i got 4 surprise parties, i enjoyed it; anyway, if you didn't make any plans, so just do anything you enjoy and wish you a Happy Birthday :)

I got drunk the day before my birthday .......don't remind them they could have other things on their mind , and if you remind them it could make them feel guilty and have more things on their mind besides their own problems
