Your salary requirements are going to be the issue more than your age or hearing impairment. The most practical suggestion to you would be in your own business whether that's selling a product or providing a service. Only YOU know your skills, experiences, strengths and weaknesses to know what business to go into. You are older but you are not OLD so don't think your age is a handicap. You've got another ten or twenty years to work before you retire, if you choose to continue working. Once you find what you want to do and enjoy doing, it's no longer "work" and in your own business you can set your own hours, income, pace, etc. I would encourage you to consider setting up individual group sessions in your community to discuss legal issues. For example you can host presentations on wills and trusts, expunging felonies, setting up businesses, getting tax deductions, or whatever specialties you have in law and then getting 5-10 students paying $20 to ??? for the lectures. You probably won't book every class with an auditorium full of students but target your marketing and tailor your classes to what people need to know in things that you know about and you can easily earn $100/hour. You might also consider writing a book or series of books in plain english on these kinds of issues and self publish for $10+ in profits. The first step will be writing and then worry about printing and distribution. Do what you love and the money will follow. Don't wait for your ship to come in, swim out to meet it.

How about becoming a legal consultant or working with a lawyer as their research assistant for their legal cases? Also, with all the experience you had as a lawyer, you could become a lecturer at a law school. You could be an ombudsman being that you know the law well. I don't think being deaf could stop you from doing anything, only you can stop yourself from doing things.

You have received several good suggestions already. However, I'd like to add that many law firms (as well as legal departments of large companies) and public legal entities (DA's, US attorney's Office, courts...) need people to do legal research for them (looking up old cases and law books). They often use their paralegals to do this work but with your past backgound as a lawyer, so much the better. I think this kind of job is listed under Legal Analysts.

Sell things on Ebay. What kind of things? Juat about anything you can get your hands on. Old clocks, used CD's, books, framed art, etc. There are as many ways of making money as there are people, maybe buying and selling is something you would enjoy doing from the confort of your own home and at the same time make money.
