less people ( and there is plenty of water just a distribution problem - and the problem is not drinking water but water for agriculture - and golf courses lol )

in reality the solution will be to find ways to 'clean' water more efficently because the problem is more one of cost than supply ( you could transport water from where it is to where it isn't if cost was not a consideration )

Worldwide there is a critical shortage of safe drinking water.
Even in the US the colorado river is almost pumped dry for the benefit of farmers and the population of L.A.

Aquafirs in the midwest, the world's bread basket, are being depleted by the pumps for irrigation.

At this point, solar desalinization is my best solution. the vast majority of the world's population lives within 100 miles of an ocean. vast floating solar distilleries could be constructed to supply water and act as artificial reefs in an attempt to replenish the ocean's marine life.

I don't know what local salt concentrations around such a plant might be, but if established in the right areas with proper current flow the salt levels should remain acceptable.
Wave motion could be used to pump the pure water inland.

We do have to worry. We have a population explosion and people move around. For instance people are moving to Arizona like crazy. Where do they get water? The Colorado river .. but Californians tap into that river too. So where do they get the water? They are talking sewage recycling for water .. otherwise it has to come from a long way away. Possibly desalination of ocean water ... expensive .. and piping it is expensive. Also, cities persist in replacing rusty water pipes with more rusty water pipes ...instead of pipes that don't rust like fiberglass, polyethylene or PVC... more expense. But many places around the world do not have good water and organizations like Engineers Without Borders are taking action to help.

First of all we have to take the word pollution seriously .It is not that drinking water is becoming scarce due to human consumption or agriculture, but more and more source of drinking water is getting polluted by indifferent discharge of industrial pollutant and different other scums generated in our quest for material comfort.Added to this is our poor sense of sanitation .But even after such cruel rape of nature,it still holds lot of bounty for us. Drinking water can be salvaged from seawater by desalination through reverse osmosis process.

By adopting proper water management system. The water should be the international property. Several methods can be used to improve the underground water level. Most of the rain waters are getting mixed in sea. We can try to avoid it by providing suitable rain water harvesting systems.Sharing of water within the country itself is very difficult now. They fight for their normal share of water in the court.

By using solar and/or nuclear power to separate fresh water from salty seawater using the virtually unlimited amount of water in the oceans and reverse osmosis or distillation processes.
