Over Xmas the fridge has been full of stuff and now as it is dwindling down to nothing, I am noticing smelly smells, i.e. cheese, milky stuff.....
My mum said that cleaning with bleach damages the plastic etc. What and how is it best to clean out the fridge so it is bacterial clean and smells fresh as a daisy???

You should remove everything and wash it down with a mild cleaner (an ounce of bleach in a 1/2 gallon of water will not hurt the plastic and will kill the bacteria. ). Once it is cleaned, place a box of baking soda in the fridge. Cut the top of the box open and leave it for a while. You should rreplce the box with a fresh one every few weeks. Its a very inexpensive product and does a great job of removing odors.

I would take everything out of the fridge and wash in down with a mild cleaner. No Bleach. Also sometimes foods and liquids spill under the bins in the fridge. You should remove the bin and wash them. There is a good chance you will find some old liquid and residue beneath them.

Some refrigerators have a catch tray beneath the fridge that needs to be cleaned.

After thoroughly washing the inside of fridge and throwing out any old food, you can leave a box of baking soda to absorb odors. It can be replaced once a month.

Maybe if you used straight bleach it could damage the plastic over a long period of time, but if it's watered down it won't cause as much as fast. There are lots of products to clean refrigerators, so they may be more suitable, but I bet that most of them contain bleach.
Once it is clean, keep baking soda in the refrigerator to absorb odors, or you can use a peice of charcoal on a saucer to absorb odor.

Clean the refrigerator completely, including all drip trays, shelves and nooks and cranny's, with warm soapy water. Then put a open bowel of Bi carb soda on one of the shelves and change it weekly until the smell is gone. You can continue to use the refrigerator once you have washed it out.

Do the baking soda, yet you also favor to position a bowl of white vinegar in the refrigerator AND the freezer. you'll periodically favor to thaw the single from the freezer, yet you may do this by using putting it in the microwave and de-stink that jointly. The vinegar will take in the nasty odors, yet yo ought to provide it time to get to each and each of the air circulating on your refrigerator and freezer. I did this for form of two days and were given the stench of undesirable shrimp out, so i recognize it fairly works.
