The Mary Rose sank in the solent just off the Isle-of-Wight. It was raised and taken back to Portsmouth harbour where it has been preserved and placed in dry dock for visitors to tour.

The Mary Rose sank in the Solent sea area between Portsmouth and the Isle of Wight. It was Henry VIII's flag-ship, but reports show it to have been an unstable vessel.

In recent years much of this ship has been lifted and preserved - go to the following link for further information.

According to a program on the discovery channel, she sank in it solent and it is believed that she sank because the lower gun ports were open when she changed course and as in all tall ships when they turn they lean over, thus the sea went into the Mary Rose capsizing her.

See wiki article. It was Henry VIII's ship. It sank in 1545. I'm not sure whether it was actually in Portsmouth Harbour or just outside.

Just to add my voice. It was indeed in the Solent, not in the harbour. I live in Portsmouth and went down to the beach to see it lifted. Didn't get much of a view so I rushed home and saw it better on tele.
