www.geocities.com, www.freewebs.com is the past web-hosting websites i've used.
If you're using a macintosh, there's a program called iWeb which can help you make websites without knowing any html.

If you invest a little, you can build your own site and make a good living from it.....
I am using a company called Sitesell. This is the very first time I have built a website, so I needed a company who could take me by the hand, step by step!
I have nothing but praise for them! They make EVERYTHING so easy! They supply all of the online training, simple (yet incredibly sophisticated tools) and excellent support.
The cost is just $299. That includes all of the above plus domain registration. They even supply the templates for designing your site! And don't worry about html coding or other techy stuff as that's all taken care of for you!
My site is only 9 months old. It is already very highly ranked by the major search engines and is attracting up to 1000 hits a day! Plus it makes money which not only covers the costs, but actually shows a decent profit!
You can get more info from my information page at:

Please feel free to contact me through my site if you would like anymore info or advice.
Best wishes

First you must register a domain by paying some money:
the you will get something like this www.something.com
if you want freely, then you will have only sub domain eg: something.thehostcity.com.
Then you must choose a webhosting for free or paid.
most of the free webhosters provide forced ads, some do not. You have to analyse that and choose the best.
my best thing is you choose geocites, because it is spam fee

Download Dreamweaver free trial.
Or use a template www.freeonlinetemplates.com
Or, use an online template tool, Geocities, Freewebs(hate them) and Google Pages all support this.

You could serve it yourself, with your own computer if you can get Windows 2000/XP Professional or any Windows Server platform. I know there are some other OSs such as Linux that have a web server built in as well.
