2) Spider like bugs, NOT YOU, you are just in the spiders way, and he is more than happy to be rid of you, and catch more bugs, spiders eat the bad bugs that hurt us, Mosquito's tick's, etc.
they more closely resemble a crab, than an insect, they have NO INTEREST IN YOU ! A tiny house spider dropped down for a visit the other night in the living room, I took his web strand to put him somewhere else, and he went on my hand "OH MY GOD", I just calmly looked at him (as he did with me with his eight eyes, and we looked at each other for a minute), I placed him gently in the corner to remain on "Sentry" duty, and thought to myself "There must be a "higher being", that little spider was so complex, there is no way a Human could make a machine to do what this little guy does, no matter how hard we pat ourselves on the back, and claim to be the smartest animal ever to walk this planet" !

You know where the fear stems from so you're in a really good position to change things.
At times, things happen to us that have an effect on our lives. We can carry things with us for years.
The way we react and deal with certain things at one time can carry with us during our lives. So something like being stuck in a lift becomes a problem in other areas of life because it was very distressing at the time.
You've held onto that fear and distress and being in certain situations now conjures up those similar feelings of fear.
It's like a habit. And because fear is so difficult to get rid of, we hold onto it and think that it's the only way. We start thinking that that is the way it is, certain situations make us feel like this and that is just the way it is. But so much of what we fear comes from the way we look at things.
You can change by changing the way you look at that situation from the past.
Being stuck in that lift was distressing. But not all situations in confined spaces have to be distressing. That particular time was, but not all are. You were stuck in a lift but, usually, you can get out of most places and we're not stuck.
Something I would really recommend is hypnotherapy. This could help you to deal with situations that conjure up these feelings.
But please remember that just because there was one distressing incident in a confined space, it doesn't mean all confined spaces have to mean distress. Know that usually you can leave any situation when you want to.

Hi i think your phobia is a bad phobia to have, i am a little scared of enclosed spaces too but i don't think its as bad as your phobia. I really hate alot of creepy crawlies the worst being catterpillars, i really cant stand them. I think my fear of them began when i was younger. We bought a shed which had to be imported from another country, in it i think were the catterpillar pupae from a hotter climate. When the catterpillar was fully grown it was a horrible bright green and had blue dots with a yellow outter ring on it. It also had like a blue fake fork tongue looking thing on the rear end of it (as to mimic a snake tongue), and it had a kind of eye pattern there also. Well anyhow my bro decided it would be funny to catch it in a jar and chase me n my sister with it. I used to have nightmares about thousands of them crawling all over me in my bed and me being unable to move. I really dislike all catterpillars since that incident, i think its from the way they look and move. Weird thing is i like all these weird lizards n snakes which my moms terrified of, i suppose your brain triggers a mechanism after experiencing a bad situation, it does it probably as a defence or something, well thats my theory lol. Hope my incite into my fear was interesting, i thought yours was. :). Heres a few links

You are correct in your thinking. You can get over your phobias by being desensitized with a professional. Or you can do it your self by exposing your self to the phobia and reciting something over and over to yourself. I used the serenity prayer. Good luck.
