sounds like there is sediment in the tank which is causing rumbling. You should drain and flush the tank, then refill.
To drain the tank, shut off the cold-water inlet valve. Open a hot-water tap somewhere in the house. Attach a hose to the drainport and let the water run into a suitable drain, or out the back door. To refill, reopen the inlet valve, when the water runs clear, close the drainport and the hot-water tap.
If that's not the problem it may be a faulty burner whistling or popping. But I doubt tht's the problem. Sediment is usually the culprit.

Good luck

Is it a gas water heater or is it electric powered? you in effortless words crammed it with chilly water so it can make some noise yet will probable fairly down once the water temperature comes up some. If gas you'll get some hissing from condensation from the flue gasses dripping again down. this will also be standard until eventually the water temperature comes up some. If gas they have replaced the layout of those gadgets for safe practices yet did not soak up interest the noise factor. some fashions are louder than others. you are able to wish to finish slightly sound deadening to that closet if clearances enable to assist with the noise factor. also if it really is gas is it set up for the kind of gas provided? organic gas and LP gas are diverse.

It may be replenishing the hot water supply in the tank, but I would call a plumber if you are still concerned about it and describe the noise to them, but they may want to come and look at it in person which could cost you a service fee. So make sure you ask about their costs before having them come to your home.

This usually happens when the tank needs to be "flushed" it's a simple procedure that takes awhile and it adds life to the heater also.
