Im scared to call my boss so early, hes a grouch and doesn't like to be bothered, I just got another job b/c this one is such a joke. My relief isn't on call she wanted us to call her to make sure she was awake in time for work.

Document the times you've called and the number. If there is someone who lives close by and who is a co-worker, consider calling them to check on her in case she's sick or hurt.

If you absolutely have to be out by 7 and you still don't reach her or she doesn't show, call your manager. Offer to stay as late as you can, but it will definitely be their responsibility to deal with getting someone in to take over for you and/or deal/follow up with that employee appropriately.

I'm sure you don't want to rat your relief out, but you may have no choice.

OMG do we work in the same place? This happens to me all the time. Then the boss complains about my overtime. Try and call in a replacement. If the boss gets on you for that then tell them you were afraid to call. Just be honest. Call and leave your boss a message and explain that it isn't fair to you or them(boss). You then have to scramble to find their replacement and wake them up. Doesn't happen now to me, thank goodness. I wish you luck.

Sounds as if she is avoiding work....I would call your boss anyways...you don't deserve to have to put up with a grouchy boss or a late co-worker....

there isn't much more you can do, if the person is required to be on call or answer a provided pager/cell phone report the non response to the supervisor
