XBL released a patch that allows 360 games to be played in 1080p, but you still need the HD player add-on to watch HD-DVD movies.

Simply put, No.
They may bring out an update in the future, or you could hack into the Xbox and change it, but that's heavily unadvised.
Just buy an external HD Player,
