Surat is fine. politics ? so I think its the same thing everywhere whether its America or India. well if u r coming as a tourist so let me give u some suggestions.
its better if u live in a city . if u really wanna see a village so arrange it in a way that u would come back to ur place in one day.
try not to trust anyone.. stop thinking that people will feel that u r rude its better to b rude than get looted.
don't wear really good clothes that gives an impression other people that u r rich and spend more.
try to negotiate everywhere u go. don't agree on the first price of any service,
Not all people are same but its better to be careful . u r a woman so try to stay in public place all the time.
