The four most common emotions on theorists' lists, and the basic states of Commedia dell'arte, are fear (or terror, shock, surprise), anger (or rage), sorrow (or sadness), and joy (happiness, glee).
Robert Plutchik developed his psychoevolutionary theory of basic emotions in 1980, with ten postulates, and eight basic emotions: fear, anger, sorrow, joy, and disgust, acceptance, anticipation, and surprise. Inclusion is based on relevance to adaptive biological processes (i.e. evolution).

Emotions are classified as "something felt" by the "result of stimuli." (Automatic-Response: triggered by the neurons in our brain.)
Examples: Joy, Peace, Anger, Fear, Hope, Comfort
The weird thing about this is that we can train ourselves what to feel. The brain looks for the patterns (how we usually response), and "auto-programs" the ones we use most often.
So, people can change their emotions with becoming more consciously aware of them.
