This is a trilogy of books by Philip Pullman, which has since been released as a single volume under the title His Dark Materials. It features two children (Will and Lyra) as the principal characters. It moves between alternative realities of Oxford in England as Lyra and Will come of age and try to save the various realities.

An adventure / alternate worlds trilogy primarily about two children and the part they play in a conflict that spans several worlds. It's an absolutely fascinating quasi-modernisation / development of Milton's Paradise Lost with two children Will and Lyra standing in as Adam and Eve and even mentioning fallen angels. A veritable commentary on organised religion (and pushes the finding of that which is divine and found within oneself, others or nature, and not in rock or stone.) But despite this is exceedingly entertaining and easy to read. Everyone I've recommended to read this has loved it thoroughly.

They're actually being or have been made into films as we speak starring Nicole Kidman, Daniel Craig and newcomer Dakota Blue Richards.

This is a brilliant series. Quite hard to describe but features an alternative Oxford. Take a look at the website. It's a fantastic read!

This is a great series.

Features kids as heroes. Primarily a girl named Lyra. The villians are adults (but not all adults are villians).

1st book is The Golden Compass.

Good? FABULOUS is more like it - except for Tolkien, these are the best fantasy books ever. I just loved them. How great it would be to have my own "daemon".
