My husband and I have been trying to concieve - last night I took a pregnancy test and it was positive ( I took it around 7pm ) This morning I woke up to take another one - just to be sure - and I had started my period...and the test was negative.

Any ideas what went on here???

Early miscarriage is very common. As many as 30% of women will experience one, usually before they even miss a period, or realize they are pregnant. Most early miscarriages are a result of a developing fetus that is unhealthy and has little chance of surviving to the end of pregnancy. If you have heavy bleeding this could explain it.

A pregnancy test will not read positive unless you have that hormone in your body so it seems like it could be an option. There is always the chance the test was just screwed up. Try a site like www.mymonthlycycles. com that will help you track the best tiime for you to conceive.

There is absolutely no such thing as a false positive, only false negatives when the hormose in not high enough or the test itself was defective (the chances of 2 being defective are slim to none) or the tests were not done correctly. When I was pregnant with my son I had a postive test on the Friday, went to a clinc Saturday and it was negative and by Thursday it was positive again. It all depends on the time of day, how much water you have ingensted to dilute the HCG hormone etc. It is true however that there can be an early miscarriage and the pregnancy does often end at the time ofa menstrual cycle...I think this is why doctors urge us to wait until after out missed period to test. Good luck!

It is very possible that just before a period comes, it shows a positive result, with all the hormones imbalance before a period !!!
If you were pregnant indeed, the test still verify positive. I had a miscarriage at 11 weeks. After 3 weeks, the test still showed positive !!!

The first test gave you a false positive. If you had been pregnant and miscarried then the test would still have showed as positive the next morning.

if the test in now negative you are not pregnant - if the line to say you were pregnant was very faint then there were not enough hormones to help the baby stay implanted. You can have a false positive but not a false negative - very sorry good luck in the future
