For years my mum always used to say that she never put plants in the bedrooms because they feed on oxygen at night time. I took this for granted and did the same - until I realised what a load of rubbish it was - I now share my room with a Venus Fly Trap, a tree and a couple of other vegetable-type things! Surrounded by em - the natural surroundings actually seems to make me sleep better.

Do you, or did you, have a plant-free bedroom?!?

Hello Andy, before I start I have to agree with the comments 'The D.A.' made. What is going on in school these days?

Anyway, to your question. It's true, that at night photosynthesis is reversed, and they take in oxygen. But it certainly doesn't mean that you can't keep plants in the bedroom! If your room suits the needs of a plant put it there.

I would never have a plant-free bedroom. How boring! Get your room filled to the brim and enjoy, x

particular varieties of vegetation (comprehend as CAM vegetation) take in oxygen at night to apply right here day in photosynthesis. got here upon ordinarily in warm, dry climates, those vegetation have developed a temporal separation between the intake of of Oxygen and photosynthesis to decrease photorespiration (a not very useful technique believed to be a remnant of a minimally O2 ecosystem the place Oxygen is used as against CO2 in the 1st step of the Calvin Cycle, which motives a plenty smaller power output.) those vegetation open their stomates in the process the night to soak up oxygen and set loose carbon dioxide.

Yes its all nonsense, unless you have an air tight room packed with plants
It was what they did in hospitals and homes in the 50's and 60's. but not that many people keep plants in their bedrooms. They are best in the living rooms or kitchen. Best in the bathroom where it is light and also humid.

There's only one room in our house that doesn't have multiple plants, and that's only because it doesn't get enough light to support one.

We have in the neighborhood of 400 plants in the house and conservatory.
