What happened to the character "Zack" in the TV series "Joey"?

One episode he was there, the next episode he's gone, no excuses, no plot, he wasn't run over by a truck, he just disappeared as if he didn't exist. I think he was very funny.

What happened to the TV series "Joey"? We only got about half a season in Australia, and thank god for that cause it sucked so bad I wanted to scratch my own eyes out!!!
