The difference between Emotion and Logic.

Since you posted this in mythology, I assume you want something different than an Question posted in psychology.

Much of Eastern philosophy does not differentiate between the various types of internal human workings. In Western philosophy, however, the division of That Which Is Perceived has been divided mentally since before the time of the Greeks.

The Heart has been used as a symbol for most of the mental activity which concerns Emotions and subjective feelings in humans. Several phrases have continued into English to denote the extremes of "Big hearted" and "Icy or Dark Heart."

The Mind, on the other-hand, at least in mythology, is usually used as a symbol for the mental activity which concerns Logic and objective rational thinking. This is still seen in English phrases like "out of one's mind" to denote insanity or "like-minded" to describe people who have similar thoughts.

Modern psychology would classify all of this as workings of the mind and say that the heart is nothing more than a muscular pump for moving blood throughout the body.

Your heart (unless you mean the physical pump that moves oxygenated blood thru your body) is your spiritual ability to have feelings (both emotions and non-physical perceptions) that connects to your body in the vicinity of the heart chakra (much more symetricallly centered than your physical heart).

Your mind is a part of the One Mind, which your brain tunes in to in order to receive and interpret some of your thoughts.

Since your heart is a part of your spirit, it is eternal, while your connection to your mind is a mortal part of your mortal body.

they are both very interconnected through various patterns of chemicals and energy. so it's hard to separate them at all.

for example, the brains electromagnetic waves affect the heart patterns and also the patterns/rates of cell metabolism. and the patterns of electromagnetic energy coming off the heart sends signals to the brain....

so we don't even really know where the "mind" even is-- it's probably throughout the whole body. same thing with what people call "heart."

sometimes you just feel things with your whole body, so it doesn't make sense to say that feelings only reside in your brain. it's like trying to separate thoughts (mind) and emotions (heart)... there's no clear-cut line all the time.

When you see a beggar on the road:

If your conclusion is to give him away some money, it's from heart.
If your conclusion is not to give him any money because he is fully able to do some work, it's from mind.

It depends on situation, whether to use your heart or mind. All problems can not be solved at the mental level they are created at. Use both heart and mind, be rational in deciding which to listen to.

The heart usually refers to that part of a human being known as the spirit. The mind is part of the soul of a human being.

There are three parts to a human being. These are the soul, spirit, and the body.

The soul consists of three parts. These are the mind, will, and emotions.

The spirit consists of three parts. These are the intuition, consciousness, and fellowship.

The body consists of three parts. These are the bone, breath, and blood.

Some people say that the heart comprises both soul and spirit.

Actually the difference is only the word "Emotion".
If your thinking is based on 'selfishness' then it comes from 'Mind' otherwise if the thinking is about "empathising for others" then its from "heart".
