It means to chuck out of a window. Too bad is word isn't used much anymore, maybe because it has 4 syllables and most people only use 2 to get by. I use it all the time to talk about computer equipment that is acting up or making strange noises. Someday I'd just like to defenestrate that piece of crap! Technically, though, I'm sure the linguists here will say that it's supposed to be used to talk about people not things. Grow up folks, language is a living beast!

To throw someone out of a window. Thoe most famous defenestration in history happened in Prague in 1618. The three defenestrated Imperial bureaucrats survived, since they fell onto a dung heap. Still the episode triggered the 30 year war (1618-1648) in Europe
